Our clients and their needs are as varied and
unique as our pool of candidates. There is no "average" Thompson Interim Professionals
customer situation, except that, in one form or another, all of
our clients seek quality, flexibility and outstanding service. These
attributes are the foundation from which our company operates and
is a common theme among the following client success stories.
"Intensive Care" for
Peregrine Systems
"An Exceptional Match" for
Novartis Agricultural Discovery Institute
A "Double Play" for McMillin Development
"Intensive Care"
for Peregrine Systems
Peregrine Systems is an international software
development firm experiencing pressing revenue recognition and financial
restatement issues. Working in conjunction with Swenson Advisors,
LLP as the project manager, an independent team of dedicated Thompson Interim Professionals
financial professionals was entrusted with the task of reviewing
and adjusting the revenue recognized in over 1,000 contracts, as
well as reviewing the accounting accuracy relating to more than
15 acquisitions made over the last 4 years.
The engagement challenged Thompson Interim Professionals to form
a multi-level team of 25 finance professionals (mostly CFOs and
controllers) with backgrounds and skill sets related to the specific
requirements of the project. The team also needed to be willing
to work 7 days a week, 12 hours a day for 2 months.
The successful completion of the project ultimately
helped Peregrine deal with its past financial issues and allowed
them to begin to move forward and plan for the future. Steve Austin,
Managing Partner of Swenson Advisors, commented "If you want an
organization that tries to understand needs and match those needs
in an efficient manner, Thompson Interim Professionals would be my first choice, certainly
in Southern California. They did an exceptional job that helped
us gain a competitive advantage."
"An Exceptional
Match" for Novartis Agricultural Discovery Institute
The Novartis Agricultural Discovery Institute
was a genomics research center for Novartis. As a newly formed and
rapidly growing R&D subsidiary, it had two immediate financial priorities
to address: (1) to implement a complex budgeting and financial reporting
system and (2) to manage day-to-day accounting functions.
Novartis needed a candidate with experience implementing
financial systems, exceptional planning and analysis abilities,
good management skills, and a biotech or agribusiness background.
What Novartis received from Thompson Interim Professionals was a
senior-level, interim candidate who embodied all of these criteria
and who was ultimately hired by Novartis as their full-time controller.
Chief Financial Officer Karl Olsen described the outcome as nothing
short of an "exceptional match. I can't imagine it working out any
better than it did."
"Double Play" for McMillin
Development
Specializing in real estate development, McMillin
Development is one of San Diego's largest and most well known private
companies. The finance group at McMillin has been continually challenged
by rapid growth via multiple acquisitions as well as expansion of
its existing local operation.
The task for Thompson Interim Professionals was to effectively provide
McMillin with 2 high-quality finance professionals; one to assist
with consummating and assimilating the acquisitions and another
to join the staff on an interim-to-hire basis as a Senior Accountant.
Thompson Interim Professionals successfully placed both positions,
first inserting a seasoned M&A professional (who was still consulting
with McMillin more than a year after starting) and, second, identifying
an exceptional Senior Accountant who was ultimately hired as a regular
employee just a few days after beginning as a consultant.
Mary Donahue, Controller, for McMillin on her
experiences with Thompson Interim Professionals: "In my opinion, Thompson Interim Professionals is the
best company to work with in San Diego because they put the best
effort and most discretion into matching the position with the individual.
I just had a wonderful experience with themthey're very up
front and I think the world of them."
